Filming: Car

One of the shots we've been extremely anxious to film was the tracking shots of the protagonist running. We had this idea of having me run into the frame as the camera tilts up from a shot of the road- in order to do it, we needed something on wheels that was a lot more stable than a skateboard.

Thanks to Kelly's parents we got the opportunity to use their car to get these shots! Putting the top down, Kelly propped the camera up and got her dad to drive forward extremely slowly. Playing the song, I ran alongside the car (out of frame) and then ran into frame- which we want to edit to the intro beat/opening verse.

Having the car meant we could get a really steady (except for the bumpy roads) tilt up from my feet to my face- all the while still moving.

As well as the front-facing shots, we also managed to get some side-on shots of me running within the frame. This was really great as we had only been able to get shots of me running out of frame or really shaky tracking shots (using a skateboard). Something I really liked was Kelly's idea to stop the car as I stopped running so the entire shot comes to a halt- it's a slick technique and looks really good.
