Initial ideas

We think that a mainly narrative based video is what would work best with our song choice. So, we started thinking about initial ideas. Something that we have all liked so far is tied in with the plot of the BBC drama, Our Girl (starring Lacey Turner). The story follows the character of Molly Dawes, a girl living in a cramped house in East London, feeling like she is surrounded by people who don't respect her. On the night of her birthday, Molly drunkenly throws up in front of an army recruiting office. The poster stuck on the window shows Molly everything that she isn't but would like to be- respected. The series goes on to follow her struggles and successes as she joins the British Army as a medic and gets deployed to Afghanistan. The series highlights her determination to be seen and succeed and carries an empowering message of feminism throughout.

For our video, we were thinking of relating it to a girl joining the army- a very male dominated atmosphere. The aim for our video is to produce something empowering and inspirational about women and their arduous attempts to overcome barriers placed in front of them on a daily basis.
